The TV anime series Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal continues this TCG-based franchise with a new story set in the future, focused on a new main character named Yuuma - a 13-year-old middle school "bad boy". As he is challenged to a duel by his rival Ryouga, a mysterious entity named Astral appears before them, and a new legend begins. Zexal also introduces a new type of monsters, known as Excess Monsters.
