Negibouzu no Asatarou

Also known as:  Negibozu no Asataro

Negibouzu no Asatarou may not be the first samurai anime that comes to mind, but that's precisely what it is. Well, except for the fact that the titular protagonist (Asatarou) happens to be an onion head, quite literally. Toei Animation adapted this TV anime series based on a picture book series by Kazuyoshi Ino.
