The TV anime series Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo was adapted by studio Gonzo, loosely based on the book "Le Comte de Monte-Cristo" by Alexandre Dumas, in a futuristic setting. The anime is set in an elegant future Paris, where a Count returns to wreak havoc on those that betrayed him. Starships, aliens and sci-fi royalty take the place of the sea ships, warring countries and bourgeois monarchs of the original. Revenge served on a stunning silver platter.
