No More Mardock Scramble

Why would GONZO do such a terrible thing? Out of nowhere, their managing director stated that the Mardock Scramble OAV, which fans were waiting for quite some time now, has been canceled due to "various reasons" that the company cleverly kept to themselves. This show was supposed to be an adaptation of the Mardock Scramble SF novel by To Ubukata, a novel that won 1st prize as the Japanese best SF thingy for 2003. There even was a three-book special edition (which, I guess, featured some delicious lolita posters as well), published by Hayakawa, that sold over 160.000 units. That's almost as much as Japanese porn sells.

When they first announced this production, GONZO assigned Ubukata himself to do the scenario, while Yasufumi Soejima, responsible for stuff like Animatrix or Gankutsuou, was supposed to do the directing. Like, directing the little sisters to their rightful owner(s). Me. Well, too bad, one less OVA to shower us with much needed lolicious content. I'm a very sad panda. I need a hug.
