I for one am a Vexille guy (as opposed to some of the Appleseed Ex Machina crowd), so this week's news about a new anime film from the same director - Fumihiko Sori - gave me something well worth getting my hopes up for. Simply titled To, Sori's upcoming movie will adapt the 2001 Nights sci-fi manga about mankind's voyages into space. Oh yes, I'm a sucker for that kind of stuff.

An official website has already popped up on the domain of production company Avex, though other than a "Coming soon" message and the above teasing picture, there's nothing there yet. If I were to throw a vague wild guess, I'd pick 2010 as the film's release timeframe.

The original manga 2001 Nights (2001 Ya Monotogari) was authored by Yukinobu Hoshino back in the '80s, and soon afterwards it received a single-episode OVA adaptation also known as Space Fantasia 2001 Nights. The title is an obvious hint to Stanley Kubrick's cult sci-fi classic 2001: A Space Odyssey, from which the manga drew its inspiration.

So if anyone can think of any reason why this won't be a cool film, speak now, or let me hyperventilate in peace.
