The ongoing Hellsing OVA is slooowly crawling towards its 7th volume, whose Japanese release date was recently announced to be set for December 23, 2009 - as confirmed on the official website. Like the previous episode, volume 7 will be available in Blu-ray and DVD format, and both versions will also have a Limited Edition boasting various useless extras.

We also dug up this summer's Hellsing OVA 7 trailer and added it locally, since we missed it at the time. Some particularly brutal footage there, featuring a fittingly furious song called "Magnolia", by the band Suilen.

The OVA has been unfolding in Japan since early 2006, with each new volume taking anywhere from 6 to 10 months to come out. The first 4 episodes were animated by studio Satelight, and they also enjoyed English releases under the Hellsing Ultimate moniker. But that trend seems to have stopped after Madhouse took over the production, as of episode 5. Not for long, presumably; or at least hopefully.

Further down the road, in 2010, Geneon plans to re-release the first 5 volumes on Blu-ray with improved video quality and animation in Japan, since they only came out on DVD initially. If you feel like buying any of the previous volumes, or maybe pre-order volume 7, you can do so from the Hellsing OVA page over in the top-right box (scroll on for the older ones).
