Staying true to its core theme, the
Vampire Hunter D anime franchise is slowly rising back from the grave, a decade after its latest incarnation as the 2000 anime film
Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust. That said, the overall franchise has since spawned several novels, manga and video games, but nothing else in the moving-pictures department. Not until word came out about a new
VHD anime series, as well as a VHD live-action film. Plus a new novel titled "Yashakiden", by the way.

The news originated in a recent interview with the original novels' author Hideyuki Kikuchi, published by the Canadian horror fan magazine Rue Morgue (via
AnimeVice). Despite his 60 years of age, Kikuchi is still working his shriveled ass off to keep his blood-sucking baby in great shape.
"Not one to rest on his laurels, the 60-year-old author is busy working on a VHD live-action film with the producer of the Biohazard video game (a.k.a. Resident Evil in North America), writing a new novel about vampires, titled Yashakiden, and planning a new VHD anime series in Japan. Kikuchi obviously doesn't plan on retiring his famous vampire hunter any time soon.
"I have many ideas", he confesses. "Ideas that, if they were combined, would be bigger than the Rocky Mountains"."
So there you have it. The only thing left to point out is that the format of this new Vampire Hunter D anime has not been specified, but I took the liberty of adding it to our database as a TV series. Could turn out to be an OVA, though...
