Suzumiya Haruhi no Kyougaku as it's
titled, or The Surprise of Haruhi Suzumiya in prain Engrish, is the next volume in Nagaru Tanigawa's light novel series that was adapted into... right, you know that part. Mkay, so word on the Nippon webs is that the next novel - the 10th one - is optimistically planned for release this year, under the Kadokawa Sneaker Bunko imprint. And just like that, in the agonizing spirit of Chinese torture, the news ends without actually offering a specific date. So how about a random
picture, instead?

If it's any comfort, the report does state that the novel is 75-80% complete, which is about 370 pages according to the author's estimation.
ANN also adds that "400 characters can be written on each page of Japanese-style composition paper" - a crucial piece of information which can only lead to one conclusion: that's a lot of kanji, right there! (total journalism strikes again)
As a reminder, the 9th volume in the light novel series, Suzumiya Haruhi no Bunretsu, was released 3 years ago. And this February's anime film
Suzumiya Haruhi no Shoushitsu (The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya) was based on the novels' 4th volume. So, with the risk of repeating myself, rest assured: there's plenty more material left to be animated.
Now back to wondering when the next drop in Kadokawa's oh-so-cruel Chinese torture will be dripping our way...
Update: Gigazine has some pictures with The Sneaker magazine issue where this story originated. The cover sports a new artwork drawn by original illustrator Noizi Ito - the female artist behind
Haruhi's curvaceous character design (as well as
Shana's, among
others).
