It should be obvious by now that pornography in general, and child porn in particular, are some of the easiest means to justify any (and all) political-slash-corporate ends. So easy, in fact, that they sometimes end up being abused by the very same abusers we should be fearing! All in the name of some false justice, for which the dumb herds uneducated crowds wouldn't think twice about giving up their votes. Most often because they're simply incapable of thinking for themselves.
Let me exemplify. "Child pornography is great" - these are the exact same words allegedly uttered with enthusiasm by a certain Johan Schlüter, from the Danish Anti-Piracy Group - a lobby organization for the music and film industry associations - at a seminar called "Sweden - A Safe Haven for Pirates?" (granted, the seminar took place a couple of years ago, but the quoted report follows that up with more recent developments). The group's declared Orwellian purpose: to start blocking file sharing sites.
What's one thing got to do with the other? Well, it may not be immediately obvious to us common folks. But to an unscrupulous, insidious political-slash-corporate mind, it all makes perfect sense:
"It is great because politicians understand child pornography. By playing that card, we can get them to act, and start blocking sites. And once they have done that, we can get them to start blocking file sharing sites.
(...) One day we will have a giant filter that we develop in close cooperation with IFPI and MPA. We continuously monitor the child porn on the net, to show the politicians that filtering works. Child porn is an issue they understand", Johan Schlüter said with a grin, his whole being radiating pride and enthusiasm from the podium.
Of course, Johan-kun may not really give a flying fart about child abuse, as long as his (employers') goals are reached. And the scary thing is that said goals have already been reached in the past, over in Denmark. There, this very same strategy was executed to perfection, leading to the blocking of controversial file-sharing website The Pirate Bay, by all major Internet service providers in that country.
The anti-piracy lobby group was less successful in Sweden, at first. But as time passed, public opinion went numb again, and politicians changed... Fast-forward to March 2010, and we have the newly appointed Swedish EU commissioner Cecilia Malmström, proposing a pointless directive to introduce filtering of the net - "exactly along to the lines that Johan Schlüter was advocating in his speech at the seminar in 2007". Scared yet? You should be!
This kind of Internet censorship directive would have no real effect on sexual child abuse. It would, however, legitimize the principle of Internet censorship in Europe - just like that wicked interest group wanted her to. And once they have Internet censorship at their disposal... Well, how about a sarcastic educational video explaining the kind of future that awaits us in Europe.
"Even China, North Korea and Iran are already using a successful website blocking system to protect their freedom and democracy. Let's follow them into the future!"
