This right here is what the weekend was all about: the exhilarating announcement of an upcoming TV anime series based on the comedy light novels Ore no Imouto ga Konnani Kawaii Wake ga Nai
- also known as My Little Sister Can't Be This Cute, or simply Oreimo. Of course, any little-sister anime news is bound to be exhilarating, especially when the imouto in question turns out to be an incest eroge freak!
Despite this instantly-thickening plot, however, the original light novels - authored by Tsukasa Fushimi - are safely focused on pure comedy, without the kind of "sisterly love" madness we've come to expect from from the likes of Bow Ditama (Kiss x Sis
), for instance. The story of Oreimo follows 17-year-old Kyousuke Kousaka, and his cute and popular younger sister Kirino
, aged 14. The two haven't been getting along in years, until one day Kyousuke discovers that his sister is an otaku with a fetish for adult games. And so the fun begins.
There's another reason I mentioned Kiss x Sis, by the way. After digging a bit beyond the initial report
, I noticed that Ayana Taketatsu - who voiced one of the perverted twins in that anime (namely Ako) - will also be voicing Kirino. As for the production committee: studio AIC is animating, Aniplex is producing, and Keiichiro Kawaguchi is directing the project. The guy has been credited as director of Hayate no Gotoku!
and Kowarekake no Orgol
, among other less moe titles, so Kirino-chan is in good hands.
Another indication of the anime's practically guaranteed success is the fact that the five light novel volumes released so far have sold around 920,000 copies since 2008. And with the sixth volume shipping this May 10, the series is sure to break the million mark in no time. Plus, there's also a manga adaptation currently being serialized. Every bit helps...
Needless to say, we are eagerly looking forward to the anime version of Ore no Imouto ga Konnani Kawaii Wake ga Nai, whose official website
is now online. Not much to see there yet, but no worries: that's what our fresh Oreimo gallery
