Oh, well, this probably doesn't come as a surprise to those who've been following studio Gonzo's troubles since late 2008. In summer of that year, an anime adaptation of
Alive: The Final Evolution - originally a supernatural mystery manga - was
confirmed to be in the making, with studio Gonzo initially planning to release it in 2009.

But by November 2008, the studio's parent company GDH had begun a series of
restructurings and
staff cuts, forcing Gonzo to
shrink their 2009 anime line-up down to four titles:
The Tower of Druaga: The Sword of Uruk,
Slap Up Party: Arad Senki,
Shangri-La and
Saki. Since then, the Alive anime project went off the radar, Gonzo got
kicked from the Tokyo Stock Exchange and, around that same time, production on the anime was suspended.
They kept on huffing and puffing for a while, trying to get the project running again together with studio AIC (Anime International Company), but to no avail. So, finally, yesterday it was
announced by the editors of Kodansha's Monthly Shonen Magazine that the anime plans have been abandoned for good. Tough luck.
