Oh, looks like this is the first time I get to post about the upcoming TV anime
MM! here. That's odd... But anyway, to cut things short, MM! is one of the new anime series brought by the
Autumn 2010 season, and it will start airing in Japan less than two weeks from now, on October 2. As implied by the image below - and the whole local
gallery - this one will be a decidedly ecchi anime, featuring a lead male character who's into masochism. Mmm!...
Even though the anime has yet to begin, already we are
informed that the series' future home video releases will bundle half a dozen of "somewhat extreme" anime short stories called "SS!" (extra-sadistic shorts, for an extra-masochistic series?). Each Blu-ray / DVD volume will include one such anime short, starting with Volume 1 this December 22, and throughout Volume 6 - which should be released on May 25, 2011.
MM! was originally authored by Akinari Matsuno and illustrated by the artist duo QP:flapper, as a light novel series centered around Tarou Sado - a high school boy who discovered a side of himself that is into masochism. Even as he tries to hide this side from his high school crush, he tries to fix it through his school's "2nd Volunteer Club".
This first anime version is being adapted by studio Xebec, and directed by Tsuyoshi Nagasawa. He previously directed a couple of
To Love-Ru episodes, and the two most recent
Today in Class 5-2 anime adaptations (but not
the original OVA, which remains the series' undisputed best so far).
