Aside from the winter anime season that's currently shifting into gear over in Japan, anime (film) fans from North America may also be interested in a couple of local offerings, as well. Namely FUNimation's theatrical screenings of Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance and Summer Wars - both of which originally premiered in Japan back in 2009, and were shown sporadically at various events and film festivals around the world since then.

Evangelion 2.0 'FUNimation' trailer

This month's first North American screening of Evangelion 2.0 is scheduled for January 19 in Austin, Texas at the Alamo Lake Creek theater - which will also be screening the previous anime film Evangelion 1.0: One Day (In) Advance. And similar reruns of Eva 1.0 are likewise planned by some of other theaters. As for the other screenings, the vast majority of them will take place on January 20 and 21.

For the complete list of dates and venues, in both the U.S. and Canada, you can check FUNimation's official website dedicated to Eva 2.0. There's also a trailer there, by the way, that I've just added locally. And before you ask - no, I still haven't seen any solid release timeframe for the next film in the series, Evangelion: 3.0.

As for Summer Wars, its first U.S. screening actually took place yesterday in Boston (oops), but most of the others will happen tomorrow, January 7 - and a few later still, throughout the month. FUNi blogged about it yesterday, noting the addition of new dates: you can find the full list of dates and venues on the Eventful website.

Update: A fresh press release relayed by ANN announces that the first Gantz film will make its U.S. premiere this January 20, in an exclusive one-night-only event hosted by over 300 theaters. Details, tickets and a short trailer are available on the Fathom Events website. And we still have a couple of earlier trailers here and here.

The bad news? The movie will be screened with English dubs (the horror!). As a reminder, this is the first of two live-action films based on Hiroya Oku's sci-fi action manga Gantz. The second movie should follow in spring 2011.

Update #2: Added that Gantz movie trailer from Fathom's promotion locally, in HD.
