Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei... Konnichiwa Katteni Kaizou! If that nutjob of a teacher has left you in despair, wait till you see this next anime based on another one of Kouji Kumeta's gag manga, featuring another nutjob of a character: Kaizou Katsu, whose idiotic insanity is the result of a whack on the head, after getting kicked off a jungle gym during childhood.

Studio Shaft and director Akiyuki Shinbo are once again working on this anime adaptation, as they did for the Zetsubou series. So ample amounts of quality lulz are to be expected. There's also plenty of source material, as the original manga ran for about six years since its 1998 debut, and was compiled into 26 volumes. Oh, and did I mention it sometimes featured vulgar humor and the occasional sex scene?

Aside from the titular student Kaizou (who nearly blew up his school several years ago, and nowdays believes he is a cyborg), some of the other derranged characters include his childhood friend Umi (who caused Kaizou's head-banging "accident", and will slowly reveal her dark side), Suzu and Chitan (fellow science club members), and an angry mob of former classmates hell-bent on payback for the explosion caused by Kaizou, that forced their school to shut down at the time. Never a dull day, shall there be...

With this announcement, it was also revealed that the Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei anime series will be getting 3 Blu-ray box sets: the first season's pack is releasing this March 23, and the others will follow on May 25 and July 27, 2011.

Update: An official website for the Katteni Kaizou anime is up, and the format is believed to be a TV series. Not 100% sure yet, though.

Update #2: Added a bunch of Pixiv pics to the local Katteni Kaizou gallery.
