The "politics x mahjong action" manga
Mudazumo Naki Kaikaku: The Legend of Koizumi has been
re-elected for a new term. Its second part will begin serialization this spring, in the Kindai Mahjong magazine. Meanwhile, the first part of Hideki Ohwada's manga still has one more compiled volume (#6) left to be released in March, having just ended its serialization today. And if you haven't seen last year's
free Koizumi OVA, go for it: it's crazy!

The Pokemon anime series
Pocket Monsters: Diamond & Pearl, which ended in September after nearly 200 episodes, will receive an
extra two episodes, as a TV special anime that will air in Japan this February 3. The stories depicted will be of
"Hikari (Dawn in the English adaptation) and Takeshi (Brock) after their journey with Satoshi (Ash) ended".
The North American Blu-ray release of
The Garden of Sinners (Kara no Kyoukai) with all its 7 anime films is still firmly set for this February 8. But first, on February 5, Aniplex of America will hold a
premiere event in San Francisco, at Viz Cinema (inside the New People building). The 1st, 2nd and 7th movie will be screened there, with Japanese audio and English subtitles; followed by a discussion panel with key members of the production staff - namely studio ufotable's president, Hikaru Kondo, and producer Atsuhiro Iwakami. Next up, pirates ahoy! A new round of police sweeps were conducted across Japan this week, between January 11-14, echoing last November's nationwide offensive against P2P uploaders of illegal materials - copyrighted anime, games and such. This time, 50 locations from 23 prefectures were searched, resulting in
18 arrests: all males, of ages between 25 and 58 years, and all of them using the Share file-sharing program (yes, again; just how hard can it be to drop that crappy unsecure app?). Gundam and a few other mecha anime dominated the list of pirated titles.
And for our daily
"Tiger Mask" saga, the number of donations at various children's centers across Japan had surpassed
700 at the latest count, and by now it should be past 1000. For those still keeping count, the grand total of gifts has gone past 620 backpacks and 24 million yen (about $290,000) in cash. And - not surprisingly - the classic Tiger Mask manga is seeing a revival these days, with over 10,000 copies sold since Tuesday.
