Today marks the Blu-ray and DVD release of the first OVA volume of
Rurouni Kenshin: Shin Kyoto-Hen in Japan, following a limited theatrical screening in a couple of theaters there, back in December. And also as of today, Amazon has an updated listing for the OVA's second volume, with an attached release date of August 22, 2012 on
Blu-ray and
DVD.

It's not clear yet whether this second episode will have a similar theatrical screening, ahead of the home video release. Nor should it matter too much, for Western fans...
Fully titled Rurouni Kenshin: Meiji Kenkaku Romantan - Shin Kyoto Hen, this latest OVA in the franchise is created by Studio Deen, as a remake of the Kyoto story arc from Nobuhiro Watsuki's original manga and its previous anime adaptation, also known as Samurai X. In particular, it depicts the battle of Kenshin Himura and Makoto Shishio, told from the point of view of the Oniwabanshuu ninja Misao Makimachi.
