All Monogatari Novels Will Have Anime, By Shaft

Little did we know last month, when Nisemonogatari ended with that "To Be Continued" notice, that it's not just that particular (sub-)series that will be extended with more anime. Instead, all of NisiOisin's "Monogatari" novels will have anime adaptations, according to an announcement that surfaced today from the Nisio Tsuushin newsletter.



Having done a superb work with animating NisiOisin's novels so far, studio Shaft will continue to create the remaining anime series; or movies... or maybe even OVAs? Well, there are no details yet on the format and release timeframe for the remaining projects. Except for the upcoming anime film Kizumonogatari, which we've known about since 2010.

Also, director Akiyuki Shinbo had previously expressed his desire to animate all of the "Monogatari" novels, in an interview from January.

As a reminder, there have been 3 TV anime series in the franchise so far: Bakemonogatari in 2009, Katanagatari in 2010, and Nisemonogatari in 2011. The complete "Monogatari" series is structured as follows (via MAL):

First season:
- Bakemonogatari
- Kizumonogatari
- Nisemonogatari
- Nekomonogatari (Black)

Second season:
- Nekomonogatari (White)
- Kabukimonogatari
- Hanamonogatari
- Otorimonogatari
- Onimonogatari
- Koimonogatari

Final season:
- Tsukimonogatari
- Owarimonogatari
- Zoku Owarimonogatari

Entries for each new anime will be added to the local database as more details will be revealed about them...

Update: MAL updated their story with the following details:

"Iwakami Atsuhiro, the producer of Aniplex, said the second season of the Monogatari series [see above] will be animated in two cours TV series. Since Nekomonogatari (Black) does not belong to the second season, it will be animated separately. Iwakami also said it's impossible to release the Kizumonogatari movie within this year. The premiere of the movie will be postponed."
