A dude named Jason Deangelis who, by chance, happens to be the Seven Seas president, has informed us that the American translation for Kodomo no Jikan, Kaworu Watashiya’s lovely and well written manga, will NEVER EVER see the light of the day. Oh, the sorrow! Oh, the sadness! But why would the Japanese_culture_infused Americans be denied this excellent piece of work? Oh, well, it’s because of the… subject. While by no means containing porn or any kind of nudity, the said manga is actually a nice parody of the Lolita complex, as it follows the cvasi-love story between a horny male and a delicious, underage girl. Of course, just the thought of this (and we do know Americans are way more perverted than Japanese people, even though just while they are “thinking”) and the showdown that started online. Just the idea of underage sex thinghies, loudly promoted via the internets by (probably) a bunch of fat, unsatisfied and 100% virgin 40 years old U.S. of A. female representatives, made Seven Seas cancel their translation, leaving so many poor American wankers out of… wanking material. Oh well, cheer up mates, you still have  Madeleine Allbright, blessed be his her young heart.

It feels like a slap in the face of all loli fans...

Could you try to publish it yourself? I'm sure with all the controversy many people would have bought it even if they're not into loli, just to see if it's really that bad or not. Sure now with all the scanlations it would be much more difficult to sell it, but I think quite a few people still would buy it:
- to support Kaworu Watashiya, the manga author
- to support the translators
- to have the professional translation
- to have an actual book in English rather than few files on the harddrive,
to read it conveniently or/and just to put on the book shelf, to show others, may be even use it as present, etc.

I guess some people would even donate you money if you decide to publish. I know I would donate.

At least you could make a poll asking how many people would still buy it even now or even in 6 months (or even donate).

How much does it cost to publish it anyway, let's say just vol.1?
- license costs
- translation costs
- printing costs
- distribution costs (?)
- anything else?
How much would be the costs for each of them for vol.1?

What is about your translation, did S7 already pay you for the translation and keeps the rights to use (or not use) it however they want? Could you get the rights back from them?

Is S7 still sitting on the license, would they be willing to sell it to you or anyone else? (I hope they don't sit on it just to ensure that it "will NEVER EVER see the light of the day" :(
But I hope they aren't allowed to do it according to the contract with the Japanese publisher... After all they bought the license to publish this manga, not to sit on it and keep it from being published...

P.S.
Is there any other way to contact you except leaving a comment like this? I can't find any contact information...

P.P.S.
Considering that certain ANN Editor played a big role in killing of this release, wouldn't it be appropriate to remove the ANN link? There are some better sites out there you could link, for example animesuki ^_-

Well Soran, even if we did have the kind of money to get the rights and publish it (which we don't, not even close), the first thing we'd do would be to buy one-way tickets to Japan. And with the rest of the money get pissed drunk while waiting for the airplane, most likely.

P.S. - see P.P.P.S.

P.P.S. - all things considered, ANN is still a great news source, so... yeah, next p.s.

P.P.P.S. - the look is still too "blog'ish" for our taste, that's why we're changing it soon. Actually, it's more like keeping the look, and changing the site. In a BIG way. AND with a contact info page :p
