Japan is putting more and more effort into stopping the online rampage of illegal anime distribution. Just a few days ago, this very issue was the subject of a formal request issued by Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), to the government of the United States no less. The news was picked up by ANN, revealing a bit more about what was discussed during the Japan-U.S. Trade Forum held on October 18:
"[Japan's statement] included a request for the United States to help stop the unauthorized reproduction and distribution of Japanese animation online. Specifically, the formal statement mentions the spread of Japanese animation and other materials on video-sharing sites and peer-to-peer file-sharing networks.

(...) Despite frequent requests to remove unauthorized material from sites with user-submitted videos, the ministry says the fundamental problem remains unresolved for the foreseeable future. The ministry also says that the high legal costs and complex procedures of copyright infringement cases against peer-to-peer file-sharing are issues."

"Video-sharing sites"? "Peer-to-peer file-sharing networks"? I have no idea what they're talking about...

lol as much as I would like not to pirate it, I need my fix and since I can only get that one way I don't see why I would just up and stop now.

Buy the dvds, and support the companies that make your favorite shows. This money would not only help American companies that license these series, but also the creators that spent all the time and effort making them great. :)

I would buy the dvd's, but they don't import here and none is shipping here.

You have to remember that many of us 'Pirates' do buy Anime as well as download it.

Personally I am a huge bleach fan, they are releasing them in the the UK but I'm still waiting for Series 3 part 1 (Preordered through HMV).

I don't have the money to Import titles so I just buy whatever I can get my hands on. So yes I download Bleach and I buy it. I am one of many people that do this, so really alot of the time these companies are chasing ghosts.

X number of downloads =! X number of Sales

well when you are buying those dvds from hmv do you not think they are a little pricey that is because lost money has to be made somewhere.
There is a site i know of uploading there videos to one place and then posting links onto there main site so as they recieve rewards for how many views they recieve worst bit is they make around $10000 per week and yet still have the cheak to ask users to make donations.

they need to realize how hard it is to get good anime here in america. I download and watch tons of shows, but I buy as much as I can afford as it gets an american release if it even does get one.

I can agree to say they are "chasing after ghosts" because its the same mentality software developers have. they think if X amount of people had not downloaded their mediocre game then that same amount of people would actually have payed $50 for it.

Most likely this will be completely disregarded though. None of the voters give a shit that a geek subculture is torrenting Haruhi, and at the worst we might see a slight decrease of poor quality youtube anime posts.

Support the companies and buy or watch it on legit websites. A tween animator should not make the same salary as a taco bell employee no matter how good those crunch wraps are.

download forever! they make good money already (creators) but they are getting greedy. is not like they are starving. if they dont love creating anime then they should quit and become teachers.

"is not like they are starving" - you'd be surprised :(
