lolz now thats a good and entertaining rant. again a reflection though on how a lot of anime themes are out of this world.. doesn't really bother me, but i can almost see the "wtf" faces of american audiences if they ever see similar scenes in movies, not saying they should take the slightest pride in having bad imaginations and low cultural tolerance. now it would be nice if they had fewer failures at real politics when things count and less over-enthusiasm when things don't.

I am actually Looking forward to see what the americans do to the franchise and i think it may be a quality film so long as they dont dramatise it too much even though the likelihood is that they will turn it into some film with an annoying moral underlining.
The thing is America is alot like the setting in Death Note with the largest ammount of criminal activity and the setting in america would be interesting too.

I won't say a negative thing about the movie or positive, because no one knows what'll happen. Just because America has fucked up some good movies doesn't mean they can't produce one good one. All I'm saying is see the movie before you rant and bite it's head off. If it's bad I'll be right there along with you criticizing it, but if it's good I'll be there to support it. Though I can see where you're coming from, Speed Racer was horrible and The Grudge and The Ring were even worse. I'm glad there's someone out there who's posts sound educated and smart unlike others who act like they've never learnt how to spell, punctuate, or put sentences together right. And 'them' Americans? Umm... sorry? Have I missed something? I know Japan isn't exactually the most equal society in the world but Women can vote (sure the Americans enforced it when they took over for a bit but still...) I also think that Japan is getting a lot better then it was. I have never been there and never met a Japanese person but that is the impression I get. Didn't they just pass some legistation that the Ainu were offical proper 'indiginous' people, which is a big step!

As for inequality (Xenophobia), I think it is getting a lot better. An example of this is in Love Hina where there is a long running standing joke on how culturally uninformed the normal Japanese charectors are. The (super-cool) Indian girl is always called by her surname as they assume that it is front whereas it is second westen stlye.

As for lolis, isn't it the fault of the people who constently demand them? (To the Author of the original article, I think you fall in this catagory, based on the 'politically correct'comment) And please don't tell me that the west is completely innocent of Lolis too? St. Trinians, anyone? Also, who was it who wrote Lolita to begin with?

As for Fan Service, most decent manga doesn't have as much as the average film, for example... Charlies Angels? Lol... that made me laugh....

As for the American remake, I am also of the opinion that it will suck. The Japanese one is just too good :D But I think there is a slight chance that it could be very very good. I think there is a 25% chance that it will be very good.

Also, lol to whoever said Zac Efron. He would look blooming perfect!!!!!! Pity, he could never act the part and I hate him but... ah well.

As to who of America could play Light or L I think they will do what they generally do and get a British person to play the baddies (Who recons that Detective Inspectorr Yagami will be played as a great American her? lol!) L is a quarter British already, isn't he? lol...

Well, (i'm an american) i think that the american version MIGHT be good. I mean, the dub for Death Note was pretty good. I actually enjoyed the dub(which is very rare for me) so they might be able to pull this one off. You never know. =)

I am hopeful for an American version of Death Note. I understand that a lot of fans don't want to see someone fuck over such a good series. Trust me, I don't either. Really, there isn't anything we can do to stop the film from happening either. So we'll become critics after watching it right? ... I think in 2010?

I'm acually very intersted in seeing the remake. I think that It may have some potential. But that's my opinion and your opinion is very different, but in the end, that's all it boils down to. My dream director for a DN movie would be Tim Burton, M. Night Shyamalan, Guillermo Del Toro Gómez, or Christopher Nolan. Any of them would do well.

... Okay, so he might not be that bad. In fact, he's apparently been talking about wanting to do darker roles, and so if he tries, Light Yagami would be a great start.
There's also Chase Crawford... who I hear would be better, but looks less like Light.
I don't know either actor, and to be honest, I'd rather have someone who can play him well rather than someone who looks a lot like him.

The choices floating around for L?
Daniel Radcliffe? I think he could pull it off... but he doesn't have the right voice. At all.
Johnny Depp? He'd be wonderful, perfect even... BUT! I think he's far too old for the role now... then again, looking at the Willy Wonka movie... argh...
Paul Dano? Lou Taylor Pucci? Who the Hell are they? Pucci looks like he could pull it off, but I don't know who he is...
Robert Pattinson? NO WAY IN HELL!

I can't find anything for Mello... sigh... two people said Toby Hemingway. The problem is that he can't look much older than whoever plays Near. Same goes for Matt.

Mikami, Takada, Watari, Matt, Aizawa, Naomi, Raye, and Rem should not be difficult to find roles for at all. Rem should have a low and smooth voice. Mikami could be depicted in any way- I don't care. Hell, a COSPLAYER could be chosen for Matt... but I doubt that Matt will even be included in the movie- indeed, I'd be surprised if Mello and Near were included, considering.

In the end, they may have to tap into unknown actors to find good actors for L and perhaps Light.

Hopefully this turns out good. I loved the anime and manga, the other live action movies were honestly bad IMO. I personally felt like the acting was horrible.

As far as this whole American movie of the Death Note series goes, I think that Christopher Nolan, the director who made Batman Begins and The Dark Knight could totally pull it off. When I had seen those movies, I was completely blown away. He could definitely capture the sinister atmosphere in Death Note! :3

Ok first off I am an American and the "politically Correct" thing gets on my nerves too so don't assume hollywood is the masses because it's not.
Second I perfer sub over dubb so don't assume that either.
Thridly I'm horrified at the thought of those wonderfull movies being "Americanized" Anime/Manga is a Japanese thing, it needs to stay that way. I have no problem with dubs, I have several English VA's I rather like and keep up with their works, however I agree than on the most part the Japanese original is better.

Its kind of dumb to assume its going to be a bad movie just because its a remake. In my opinion, the golden age of Hollywood is long gone so ANY movie original or not is going to go down the tube. I was a big fan of the manga. I've since stopped reading mangas but I'll difintly be interested seeing the American adaptation. I know in Korea, American movies still tend to do better globally in most other countries, not all but some, so I'll back my Americans on this one

If you think about it, remakes of anything are usually not as good as the original. In my opinion, Japanese original was low grade and not all that great, so i'll be interested in seeing what the us version does. Plus its a REMAKE. Remakes allow the director to take on a new perspective and use their creativity to make a new story.

Not looking forward to this at all, the Japanese live action was bad enough. It'll probably be the same as the shitty Japanese horror movies that got remade, just as bad as the original.

I think people should see the movie before they judge it. I mean, if you really can't, at least wait until they're done filming and see the trailer before you say something. As of now, the movie is still in development, so any opinions expressed at this time are considered biased; you can't really judge a film company's potential on it's country. Personally, I'm looking forward to seeing what Vertigo Entertainment will bring forward in Death Note, but that's all I can really say about it. Also, I am somewhat doubtful of this Zac Efron rumor, but if he really does play Light, I'm willing to give him a chance. All we can do now is hope that this movie is a success.

I… think we should give Hollywood a chance. I’m not a super death note fan but I have watched the entire series, read some of the books, and seen the Japanese version of the movie. Seriously, Death Note alone has a great concept. And really, American producers are not as horrible-and-or-stupid as a lot of you are making them out to be. I can most certainly see a good Death Note movie, tweaked here and there to make it original, coming out.

People really need a reality check, and I'm not talking about the movie industry. The Japanese are trying to make a buck just like anyone else, which is why they even made Live Action films that everyone says is amazing. Americans have great imaginations, and the fact they want to base a new movie of this story doesn't mean it will suck as an American version. American anime lovers give too much credit to the Japanese anime culture and don't realize what we already have is good too. We're too romanced by something different from our own to actually look at it. It's just immediately amazing, and I say this from experience. And frankly, I didn't think the Death Note Live Action films were all that great, but that's just my opinion.
