For the past few days, more and more websites have been picking up on the rumor that a Tales of the Abyss anime is in the works, based on Namco's PS2 fantasy RPG from the well-known "Tales of" games franchise. I first noticed this bare-bones rumor over on AnimeSuki, and since then more plausible evidence to suport this story surfaced via ANN - who say that animation studio ingresA writes on its website that it worked on the "coloring for Tales of the Abyss #1" last month.

Studio ingresA was previously credited with doing in-between animation for the xxxHOLiC: Kei anime sequel, and since that one is ending later this month, there's little reason to doubt that they're now working on something new. As to whether or not it's a Tales of the Abyss series (or at least an OVA)... well, why not? After all, three other games from the franchise - Tales of Phantasia, Tales of Eternia, and Tales of Symphonia - have already been adapted into anime by various studios, so there's bound to be more of them coming.

We may not know "when" yet, but we might have a clue about the main animation studio in charge of the Tales of the Abyss anime: according to Giapet, it's Sunrise. The anime is still not official yet, but with so many hints out there, I'd say it's a safe bet.
