We're starting to get used to writing about anime films that are desperately trying to enter (at the very least) the race for an Oscar award, this time of the year. Just as we're getting used to them ultimately failing, in the face of some idiotic car-talking, dog-humping, bat-shitting American animation. It happened to Paprika, it happened to Tekkon Kinkreet and, sure enough, it will happen again to this year's would-be anime candidates: The Sky Crawlers and Sword of the Stranger.
This here Reuters report (via ANN) says that 14 films have been submitted to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for the best animated feature category, 3 of which will go on to be nominated for Oscar. And the contenders are...
