Wish Upon a Star, as the title "Hoshi ni Negai wo" would translate, is a new anime project announced this week by Barnum Studio. Nobody seems to know what exactly it will be about, nor when we might see it or in what format. And the studio's previous history - which goes back to 2003 - is diverse enough to leave us with no obvious pattern, either.
Their most recent works are only as assistants for other animation studios, on titles such as
Sola,
Devil May Cry,
Kyouran Kazoku Nikki and
Kemeko Deluxe!. But the list from their
website is much more extensive, including last year's
Kodomo no Jikan,
KimiKiss Pure Rouge,
Nanatsuiro Drops and
Potemayo animes. How the hell did we not hear about them until now, with such contributions, is beyond me.
Or did we?...
Well, regardless, they promised to reveal more about Hoshi ni Negai wo next month, at the winter Comic Market (C75). In the meantime, they left us with a brief staff list, which names Kazuya Ichikawa as the anime's director. He previously directed the 2003 OVA
Shadow Skill, and was involved in the making of
Appleseed Ex Machina. More about the staff & cast (seiyuus in particular) on
ANN - who also notes that the new anime's title is the same as the Japanese version of the song "When You Wish Upon a Star" from Disney's Pinocchio. Is that supposed to be a hint?
