A tentative premiere date for the upcoming
Macross Frontier Movie is currently set for autumn 2009, as pseudo-announced at a Macross event in Japan this past Sunday. From what I gather from
ANN's report, the date was sticked on an
itasha mini-van parked outside the event. But staffers from the Macross F team were quick to warn that the release date is not yet final; nor is the project's title.

The event in question - pompously called "Macross: The Super Dimension Space Launching Ceremony ~It's Really 2009 Already... It's 2/22 (Nyan Nyan Nyan), Deculture!~" - was a flashback of sorts to the first episode from the original Macross anime series that aired in 1982.
"Specifically, in February 2009 of the Macross timeline", ANN explains,
"mankind launches the alien spaceship that crashed on Earth ten years earlier - only to be attacked by another alien enemy on the same day".
Some new
Macross toys were also revealed at that event, by the way. And in even more off-topic Macross news today, Sankaku Complex has two loosely related stories:
one about champion cosplay kickboxer Yuichiro "Jienotsu" Nagashima, who
cosplayed as Ranka Lee during his latest ass-kicking tournament. And
another about a Macross-themed porn movie titled
“Cosplayer Frontier”, to be released this April 24 by AV maker TMA.
Ranka Lee... mmm... I feel another local gallery update coming...
