Earlier this month, there was some
fuss about the upcoming anime
Shin Mazinger Shougeki! Z-Hen, and how it's neither a new Mazinger Z anime, nor a remake. As if anyone still actually cares. But for the three of you who just might, this week brings another related news, about a
new manga that's being added to this revived mecha franchise.

After some 25 years of silence on the anime front, Mazinger is now rapidly approaching its 40th anniversary (as are its old-school fans rapidly approaching retirement). The TV anime series
Shin Mazinger Shougeki! Z-Hen will begin this April 4, and soon afterwards a new maga series titled Shin Mazinger Zero will make its complemental debut, in the June issue of the Champion RED magazine (out on April 18). The manga promises an "entirely new Mazinger legend", and it's being written by Yoshiaki Tabata, with art by Yuuki Yogo.
And speaking of art, here are some tiny character designs for this Shin Mazinger mecha redundance.
