New anime titles aren't the only things announced in conjunction with this week's Tokyo International Anime Fair (TAF 2009). A new animation studio called Lucent 4°C (L4C) was also
introduced to the world, and I'm guessing you're familiar with at least one of its two co-founding companies: Lucent Pictures and Studio 4°C - known for
The Animatrix, Mind Game,
Tekkon Kinkreet,
Genius Party, so on, so forth.

Lucent 4°C won't be announcing its first genuine anime until the end of 2009, though, but once the studio shifts into gear, it should start releasing 2-3 titles per year. L4C's "next-generation video techniques", merging anime with 3D video techniques, are currently being shown at TAF. The presentation reportedly includes a tech-demo of Sachiko - a project that has been in the making since 2005, from director Koji Morimoto (The Animatrix, Genius Party, Memories).
So, not all anime companies are
shrinking and withering, after all.
