Slayers Light Magic is a spin-off manga that we forgot to mention last year, I think. It began in July 2008 around the same time as the
Slayers Revolution anime series, and its final installment was published yesterday in the Kadokawa Shoten's Kerokero Ace children's magazine, according to reports from Japan cited by
ANN. As it happens, the second anime season
Slayers Evolution-R is also coming to an end real soon, on April 6. Time for another six-years Slayers break?

For whatever it's worth, Slayers Light Magic (
cover) was a pretty futuristic deviation from Hajime Kanzaka and Rui Araizumi's original fantasy comedy light novels. It was drawn and co-authored by Shin Sasaki, and early on it was known as Slayers Future. The story, as introduced on
Manga Updates, goes like this.
"In the distant future, mankind has advanced into an age of technological supremacy, where magic is a lost art only mentioned in fairy tales and nursery rhymes. Living in such a world is Light Inverse, a youth who dreams of sorcery... but suddenly, his home is attacked by demons! With modern weaponry proven to be ineffective against the monsters, all hope seems to be lost... Until Lina Inverse and Gourry Gabriev are suddenly transported to the future from a mysterious shrine in their time. Can Lina bring magic back to this land...!?"
Over in North America, FUNimation will be releasing both new anime series throughout 2009 and into 2010 - as announced during their
holiday licensing spree last December.
