It feels like a year ago that... oh, wait, it really was exactly one year ago that game maker Key (Kanon
, Little Busters!
) first revealed
their new project called Rewrite
. They have this issue about making serious announcements on April 1, while everyone else is mostly fooling around. And they also have this issue about taking a pretty long time with each project - which ultimately works out great for everyone, but the most impatient of fans.
And so, after a year of nothing but a teaser page, Rewrite's official website
has finally reopened today (cheers Zepy
). It still doesn't go into much detail, but at least we can finally see the first few images from the game (you'll find them in the local gallery
), the characters
' introduction, and a story
"Rewrite is set in the fictional city Kazamatsuri where treeplanting and afforestation have caused the city to become overgrown with trees and flowers in much the same way that other cities are filled by buildings. However, while most of the city appears to be rural, there are many traditional city elements as well. While set in a modern setting, the city also gives off a strange sense of nostalgia. The basis of the story is set in a high school setting. The first half of Rewrite primarily consists of the characters interacting in many everyday, enjoyable scenes. The latter half, however, is more serious, emotional, and carries a sense of mystery to the plot." (Wikipedia)
Only half of Key's games have originally been released as eroge (18+), even though they later received all-ages versions; and vice-versa. So the bets are still on as to how much ero content Rewrite will pack. Needless to say the art looks great: it's Key we're talking about here.
A rather intriguing bit of info I wasn't aware of, until I poked around Wiki today, is that Key employed Ryukishi07 from 07th Expansion (Higurashi
) to work on Rewrite's scenario. And just like that, I plunged head-on among the most impatient of fans. Gief!
