Twists and turns in the Japanese gaming industry. Some time ago, the TBS television network reported that EOCS (Ethic Organization of Computer Software) will use their ban stick regarding the production and sales of adult computer games that, in a way or another, depict scenes related to rape. Especially that rape and violence behavior against women. Said ban would have started working its way around beginning with June 2, but... surprise surprise...

Several EOCS members have, since then, stated that the TBS report was inaccurate, to say the least. While they confirmed that there is, indeed, a meeting set on June 2, which may or may not discuss certain restriction regarding video games, there is, at least until now, no ban set in motion. So, in other words, TBS was talking bullshit. We'll just have to wait and see.

The main problem is, as I see it now, that adult video games in Japan (be it rape, incest, lolicon stuff) are a big part of the industry. Banning some will not be a huge issue though, since there are so many ways to "avoid" getting caught with this kinds of stuff in Japan, it's almost hilarious. The thing that worries me the most is that the "political correctness" is getting closer and closer to Japan's otherwise fine moral principles. And that is wrong.

Thanks Animenation for the scoop.

Hey, check SanComp, looks like the ban has been passed; however, not all the companies are part of EOCS. My only question is what all content will they consider to be rape and therefor banned?

As long as they dont follow the UK's and USA's steps it will all be fine. Long life to Lolis.

Apparently it's not as bad as the first report:

# Words such as “training” (調教) or “slave”, among others, are not allowed in the title or packaging
# HCG involving sexual violation cannot exceed 20% of a game’s total HCG count (ie: can’t try to build this up by having lots of everyday life CG events)
# Even if it’s below 20%, anything that is promoting a criminal offense is not allowed
# Anything that promotes rape, confinement, stalking, domestic violence, and portrays it in a way that the offender gains something out of it is not allowed
# New games that have already passed the review process by the EOCS are considered “safe” from this
# Regulations stated in the fax are completely different from what was being discussed in the emergency meeting yesterday
# New regulations starts 5th of June
