Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn is shaping up to be quite a treat for fans of the franchise in general, and of its original "Universal Century" in particular. After it was previously revealed that this new anime project will take an OVA format, with 6 episodes running at 50 minutes each, more recently its release plans were also detailed. The first volume is planned for a simultaneous worldwide release on Blu-ray and DVD from March 12, preceded by an early Japanese premiere on February 20, 2010.



The February 20 premiere will comprise not only theatrical screenings, but also an online debut on Sony's PlayStation Store (for the PS3 and PSP), as well as advance sales of the Blu-ray version. The neverending TV anime series Gintama marches on with over 180 episodes aired so far, and come next spring, reinforcements are due to arrive. Specifically, an anime film titled Gintama: Shinyaku Benizakura-Hen (Gintama: Benizakura Arc - A New Retelling) has been confirmed to premiere in Japan in 2010 during the Golden Week - which lasts from April 29 to May 5. So there you have it: the rumor that began last month is now set in stone, as Warner Bros. opened an official website for the upcoming movie.



Some keen-eyed folks noticed that the "gintama-movie.com" domain had been registered by Warner one month ago, on October 5. And a couple of weeks later, a Gintama movie adaptation was indeed revealed in the pages of Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine.
