A sad day for all Death “hello, I’m shamelessly copy pasted from a 30 years old manga” Note, as VIZ Media sent a cease and desist letter to all the dudes and dudettes out there who were working their asses to get the fansubs going. This is coming right before the final episodes of the show, so for those of you who don’t understand Japanese (obviously, considering that the fan groups will respect VIZ Media’s demands), this is like… Miu-chan stopping a good old blow job just before you blow off. Here you can see a copy of the said letter, which I will try to resume in a few words:

“HAI FANSUBBERS LOL! It has come to our attention that you, geeks, are illegally translating our crappy show, making it more famous than it should be. This means we lose money. And we like money. So here is a nice warning, stop bitching around, or we will perform anal rape upon you. With a spiked club. Your friendly VIZ Media bunch of people.
P.S. If Death Note will ever become more popular than The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi, you’ll have yourselves to blame for the idiocy of future generations.”
The folks at Sony Pictures Television decided to make yet another big step in the anime industry, making their Animax channel go mobile. For starters, Australia and Canada will be the only two countries enjoying this (hopefully) quality service, via their own national mobile services. By no means a copycat of the television versions of the channel, this young padawan will have an independent lineup, consisting of Blood+, Last Exile, R.O.D. and Gankutsuou. Though this may seem like a bunch of weak TV shows, let me remind you that, well, it’s a new beginning, and that we can expect some more lolicious interesting shows later on. I would gladly cheer for this initiative to be brought to more and more countries, my own included. Now, boys and (little) girls, hush hush to the nearest gadget store and buy yourself a new 3G handset with video potential. And make sure it’s pink.

(I blame Terrence and Philip for this Canadian discrimination. As for Australia, I blame the pedo kangaroos.)
You don’t see everyday Japanese animation movies in which people invest colossal amounts of money. And by colossal, I mean about 1.7 million USD. Miyori no Mori, Hideji Oda’s manga, is beining... taken care of, and by the looks of it’s homepage, we’ll get to see some very gifted people at work here. Like the art director from The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, Nizo Yamamoto, the writer for the same show, Satoko Okudera, with the special appearance of Yuu Aoi from Honey and Clover, as the main character. From what I have seen so far, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time was pretty well received by all sorts of audiences, and, while we wait for our must_watch anime stockpile to get smaller in order to view it too, we can’t but maniacally chuckle at the thought of an 11 years old girl who is able to talk to spirits… and various other things.

The two-hour show will air on August 25, so keep close and see if the money and time invested here was worth it.
If you like totally screwed up plots, lots of WTF moments, demented characters and an absolutely gorgeous storyline, then you have probably enjoyed Higurashi no Naku Koro ni. Word of a sequel is no longer new – and, hell yeah, we’re shivering with anticipation, because more young girls with hatchets are always welcome here, at Animekon. Well, until the show starts airin’ (somewhere in July, if I remember correctly), we all can take a look at this promo trailer, from Famitsu. Enjoy.

Update: Arigatou Famitsu for the clip, TVkon will take it over from here. And also (relatively-)new there is the Popotan erogame opening, and the latest Shakugan no Shana movie & Season 2 promos. Now in HD streaming!

If you love your club big and spikey, then you should know that Dokuro-chan is coming to rub it a few more times, starting with August 24th, when the first episode of Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokuro-chan 2 is scheduled to air. Chibi sadistic angel + a lot of fanservice = huge boner.

If you think the crap that’s out this year is just not enough for you, here are some new, freshly announced, TV series that might get your attention, in a way or the other.

First off, we have an adaptation after the “ef” adult PC game series, created by Minori, which will premiere this fall, under the name of ef - a tale of memories. As some sites say, a promotional preview DVD looks to be in the making, willing to hammer the sale charts on August 24th.

Mizuki Takehito's romantic comedy manga Koharu Biyori will also get animated – say hello to an anime OVA, and to the official website.

The ladies at GA Graphic are announcing that the Shugo Chara manga (Peach-Pit) will see the light of the day soon – you can find the official statement here.

All you Bleach fans out there can get your boners up, because the official japanese homepage for the second Bleach movie is up and running, a movie which will probably find it’s way to Japanese theatres in December. The first movie will be released on DVD in September.

HAI GUNDAM LOLZ – the “Double Oh” homepage is live, with a streaming trailer limited to Japan only (DISCRIMINATION!). The series, which will add new twists and turns to the already screwed up Gundam universe, will premier in October.

One of the few sane reasons to buy an Xbox 360 console (other than Dead or Alive Xtreme 2, of course) was ADV Films' recent announcement that they will be providing anime TV series and full-length movies for download over the Xbox Live Video Marketplace service. Now, via Gamespot, we find out that two more anime channels are teaming up with Microsoft - and they're no small fries either: FUNimation and Geneon!
"FUNimation will be releasing episodes from the epic adventure series Samurai 7 onto the network, along with other titles including Trinity Blood, Gunslinger Girl, and Basilisk. Geneon Entertainment will be adding games including the US HD debut of classic Akira, along with Gun Sword, Last Exile, Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo, and Lupin the 3rd."

A pretty decent line-up, all things considered (it could've been a lot worse!). But it definitely needs moar desu.

I hope I got it right this time - after the previous Clannad promo which actually turned out to be for Kyoto's anime TV series, not for Toei's movie. So, fresh off the internets we have a preview trailer for the Clannad movie (Gekijouban Clannad), and with it we should note that the premiere seems to have been delayed from this summer, to September 2007.

And here are some more recent trailers from TVkon:

- Devil May Cry & Ghost Hound trailer
- Superflat Monogram (super-cute)
- Dennou Coil OP & preview
- Tales of Symphonia OVA trailer #2
- Nanoha StrikerS preview (oh noez she's 19!!)
- Trusty Bell trailer #2
- Trusty Bell trailer #1
- Devil May Cry anime promo #2

At any rate, soon enough we won't have to post all these "outside" links anymore, once I'm done with the new version of Animekon. The coding suffered a "minor" setback in April when we had that database server fsk-up, and again in May when we added a new project to our up-and-coming network (in case you haven't noticed that CryoCopy link in the top bar). But I'm happy to say that development on Animekon v2 is back on track, and going smoothly.
The only thing gayer than a loser anime character such as Negima, would will be a real-life Negima. With that in mind, you are free to receive this news any way you like it; but before you hump jump to any conclusion, let's be honest here and admit that the anime did have some good parts as well. About 30 good, young, juicy parts (multiplied by 2 or 3, depending on how many of their... parts you enjoyed), all of which will be turned into real-life actresses, in the upcoming Negima! live-action movie.

That's right, the movie was finally confirmed this week, after actress Ai Tanimoto "leaked" the news (and various other things) on her blog back in March. The creator of the Negima manga, Ken Akamatsu, announced on his blog that a live-action adaptation is currently in the works, and it will probably premiere in 2008.

According to ANN's understandings from a Moon Phase report, "he also discusses the overwhelming experience of casting 31 "3D" girls for the story's all-female class".

I wouldn't mind having an "overwhelming experience" with 31 japanese girls, no sir!

Here are some nice news for all of you that sport Blu-Ray and HD DVD stuff in their bedroom - Bandai Visual has posted the schedule for some disc releases of their biggest (in some's oppinion) titles ever. So, we have Wings of Honneamise and Patlabor I coming to a store near you in both Blue-Ray and HD DVD on july 27, with Akira to be released on the same date, Blue-Ray only though. 24 August will be a happy happy day for those who enjoy Patlabor 2, Ghost in The Shell or Steamboy, but be warned, most of these will be delivered only in Blu-Ray. Then, on 25 September, stay tuned for releases of Avalon and Jin-Roh. Also on Blu-Ray only.

This is discrimination. I want more HD DVD releases, because Sony sucks.
