Uchuu Senkan Yamato: Fukkatsu-Hen (Space Battleship Yamato: Rebirth Chapter) is a 2009 anime film that continues the classic Yamato franchise, also known as Space Battleship Yamato, or Space Cruiser Yamato, or even Star Blazers. The story will begin 21 years after the original one: it's now 2220, and our planet is threatened by an expanding black hole which forces some 300 million people to make a cosmic run for it. However, the massive space emigration fleet is attacked by aliens, and it's up to the capital ship Yamato to lead the counterstrike. As a narative bonus, the first series' hero, Susumu Kodai - now a 38-year old space captain - will be married to Yuki (the original heroine), with whom he also has a daughter named Miyuki. The movie - which happens to be the first Yamato anime in the last 26 years - is helmed by original series producer Yoshinobu Nishizaki, and premieres in Japan on December 12, 2009.
