This year's live-action film Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo (The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, or simply Tokikake) is yet another theatrical adaptation based on Yasutaka Tsutsui's classic novel from the mid 1960s, about a girl who accidentally acquires the ability to travel through time. At first she uses her power to fix personal, frivolous problems; but then events become more complex and painfully difficult. The story has inspired several live-action movies and TV dramas, plus a 2006 anime film by Madhouse Studios. The latter's lead voice actress Riisa Naka stars as a different character in this new movie: she plays 18-year-old Akari Yoshiyama, the only daughter of the original novel's heroine Kazuko. After a car accident puts Kazuko in a coma, Akari leaps back to the year 1974 to find Kazuko's first love. The movie's Japanese premiere is set for March 13, 2010.
