The TV anime series Deadman Wonderland is adapted by studio Manglobe, based on a dystopian manga written by Jinsei Kataoka and illustrated by Kazuma Kondou. The story is set after the destruction of most of Tokyo by an earthquake and centers on Ganta Igarashi, a middle school student framed for the murder of his classmates. Igarashi is sentenced to Deadman Wonderland, a bizarre privatized prison that is one part incarceration and one part public spectacle for tourists. The anime began airing in Japan and simulcasting on Crunchyroll from April 16, 2011.
